Hacktoberfest, the spirit of open source

For the month of October, we’ll be celebrating open source software by participating in Hacktoberfest. With many of our products and resources being open source, it only makes sense that we support and encourage contributions from the community. Plus— we’re giving away free SWAG for contributions!

Check out our dedicated hacktoberfest page!

What is Hacktoberfest?

Hacktoberfest is a month-long celebration of open source software run by DigitalOcean and presented by Intel and Dev.to.

Hacktoberfest encourages contributions towards open source projects, motivates open source projects to promote, create, and label contributor-friendly issues. Hacktoberfest is all about having fun too, gamifying the participation of contributors with rewards and SWAG!

It’s easy to take part, all you need to do is:

  • Have a GitHub account
  • Sign up to Hacktoberfest
  • Submit 4 quality pull requests to public GitHub repositories (within the timeframe of October 1st–31st).

If you are one of the first 70,000 people to complete four pull requests, the Hacktoberfest project will send you a T-shirt!

Check out the complete participation details and rules over at the Hacktoberfest site.

Why celebrate Hacktoberfest with Commerce.js?

We couldn’t be more excited about Hacktoberfest — It’s our first official year participating as an OSS product. We have a number of open source projects and are looking forward to celebrating your contributions in the spirit of Hacktoberfest.

As an organization, we are driven to make custom eCommerce experiences accessible for all. Starting with our developer tools and resources there are many ways you can get involved with out open commerce ecosystem.

Our Hacktoberfest goals are:

  • To provide a range of issues for developers of all skill levels
  • To make contributing to the Commerce.js ecosystem as accessible as possible, especially to first-time contributors.

Plus, if you’ve never contributed to Commerce.js before, after your first PR is merged you can redeem some free Commerce.js swag!

How do first-time contributors get started?

Here are all the open Hacktoberfest issues!

Throughout the month we’ll continue to add and curate “Hacktoberfest” labeled issues targeting the different areas of contribution (docs, core, packages, etc).
